About the event

Cause Oregon, in partnership with Malheur County Economic Development, is offering a comprehensive series of seminars this spring to sharpen the skills of nonprofit boards and staff. Whether you're new to the sector or a seasoned professional, the series will provide practical tools for your work.

Classes are stand-alone modules and also build a nonprofit toolkit sequentially. Participants can attend any number of sessions at $35 each, or register for all ten at a discounted rate of $295. Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. Fees are not refundable but can be credited for future sessions.

  • Strategic Planning 4/16/19

    Moving towards your mission requires thought and analysis combined with action and assessment. In a world where human and financial resources are constrained, a strategic plan identifies activities that will enable an organization to advance its mission. We'll spend this session building a simple framework for a strategic plan. Together, we'll build a template designed to guide Boards & Executive Directors through a planning process. Participants will leave with a road map they can customize.

  • Make a Fundraising Plan 5/7/19

    Having a plan to raise funds is the #1 predictor of fundraising success. Actual plans may vary widely from one group to the next, but reflecting on the past and setting goals for the future are essential to generating revenue for your cause. In this session, we'll explore a number of methods for raising money. Participants will leave with a customizable road map for attracting investment in their work.

  • PR for Your Cause 5/14/19

    Getting your story in front of people who care is a critical component of fundraising and development. In this session, we'll explore a variety of ways to promote your work through print and digital media. Participants will leave with a toolbox to build an attractive and compelling public relations strategy.

  • Financial Stewardship 5/21/19

    Top-notch financial management is essential to the long-term health of a nonprofit. Solid fiscal practices enable us to steward donor income, while accurate financial analysis informs our decisions and plans. This session will explore best practices in nonprofit financial management. We'll cover concepts, tools and systems, from financial statements to fiscal policies. Participants who bring their organization's financial statements will create a "dashboard" report of their financial health.

We'll also cover the characteristics of stellar volunteer programs and ways to maximize their contributions to our organizations.

Let's take a look at the best practices in nonprofit management, including compliance, board governance and operations, strategic planning, personnel management (paid and volunteer), programming, community relations, fundraising and financial stewardship. In this session, we use an assessment tool that scores your organization in all of these competencies. The tool celebrates what we're doing well and identifies areas that need work.
